Procedure for Appointment of AIR

Foreign manufacturers must properly follow the instructions of BIS while appointing the appropriate AIR:

• Clause 1: Wherever there is a BIS liaison or a branch office on the manufacturing premises, such an office shall be utilized as AIR.

• Clause 2: Where there is no Indian office but the brand owner is Indian, then the brand owner would be AIR.

• Clause 3: Where there is neither a brand owner nor a branch office in India, the manufacturer will appoint some other Indian organization as AIR.

2) Domestic Manufacturer Process

• Online Submission: Online submission of the BIS application and product, and manufacturer details.

• Testing: Send the product sample to an Indian BIS-approved laboratory for testing for conformity.

• Submission of Documents: Submit the complete set of application (online and offline) and test report, and support documents.

• Verification: The application contents are verified and authenticated by BIS officers.

• Grant of Licence: BIS issues the licence upon verification, and the product is legally acceptable to be sold in the Indian market.
